The Department of Emergency Services ensures the protection of the citizens, visitors, and property in Brunswick County during disasters and emergency situations. The department consists of the County Administrator, the Emergency Management Coordinator, the EMS Supervisor, and other officials, employees, and volunteers as are deemed necessary.
The department is responsible for local responses to disasters and emergencies pursuant to the Code of Virginia § 44.1-146.13 et seq., as amended. The County Administrator, Coordinator, and EMS Supervisor have the authority to enter into and take all actions necessary to implement and carry out the terms of agreements for mutual aid, disaster preparedness, and the provision of services related to hazardous materials, rescue, fire suppression, investigation, emergency medical services or other emergency response services that may lawfully be delegated by the County Administrator. The department is responsible for emergency prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts. The department is also responsible for steering and managing the county’s EMS agency.
The Brunswick County Emergency Services Advisory Board (ESAB) provides advisory services to the Department of Emergency Services. The ESAB is comprised of the fire departments and emergency medical services agencies that are located in and permitted to provide services to the residents of the County of Brunswick.
